Hi!

We're going to look into removing the dependency on google play services to broaden our OS support in the future. Right now, we're a small team and prefer to focus on a great experience on a smaller set of devices.

Thanks for reaching out

Right now on a microG Lineage OS device the app asks for Push notifications and then it just works.
Downloaded through an anonymous Google Play account done by Aurora Store.

Right now, we're a small team and prefer to focus on a great experience on a smaller set of devices.

I'd just like to note that I don't particularly care if it's a "great experience" on my de-Google'd device; I'm aware that not running Google Play Services is (sadly) not the norm, so I'm used to occasionally having downgraded functionality.

But since the app refuses to even start, I can't even make use of limited functionality. Sure, if Google Play isn't available (and given you might not have time to implement alternatives, like Unified Push), then disable notifications, cloud backups, and whatever else relies on it, but the app shouldn't refuse to run.

I'm leaving Muun installed for now in case an update does resolve this issue, but I won't be installing Google Play Services on my device, so I won't be able to use or recommend Muun until the app is allowed to start without Services installed.

Hi @501st-alpha1! Thanks for your feedback. We'll definitely have it in mind.

We understand that our current setup may leave some users out of the Muun experience, and we're sorry about that. Like Champo said, being a small team means having to evaluate tradeoffs and make hard choices.

We're big fans of the work around Unified Push and we're following it up closely.
