The XQuartz folks advise running a RC build of XQuartz specifically for Mavericks. Knowing this, the doctor tells users to install this if 2.7.4 is currently installed. However, since the user is being advised to install pre-release software, the doctor really should explain why.

Currently, it says:

Warning: Your XQuartz (2.7.4) is outdated
Please install XQuartz 2.7.5_rc4.

Maybe it should say something like:
Warning: Your XQuartz (2.7.4) is outdated. On Mavericks, a newer version is needed.
Please install XQuartz 2.7.5_rc4.

Or something of this nature.

It should maybe also tell where to download it because it isn't too obvious on the XQuartz homepage. It doesn't show up under Quick Downloads nor under Releases. I was not expecting that an "rc" release is under the Beta downloads.

So for future people who stumble upon this, where should they install it from?

This info makes sense when brew doctor outputs it. :)

It looks like the XQuartz website is down. If anyone is looking for the dmg, you can find it at CNET: http://download.cnet.com/XQuartz-X11/3000-2094_4-10912185.html.
