I took a little crash course on next.js several days ago and I'm impressed with how lightweight it seems. It definitely provides some facilities that would make it easier to create a static site and have friendlier URLs, e.g. /creature/ instead of /?p=creature, along with code-splitting and other goodies.
Probably not too high a priority right now but it's worth thinking about in the future.
