version 8 crash during chromium browser startup #27
Comments
Did you restarted/reloaded DBus after chrome-gnome-shell-8 installation? |
Hmmm. Thanks Yuri. That solved it. I'll be uploading to Debian today. It should make it into Stretch release. |
Glad to hear, thanks. |
I looked to Debian sources and found that python-requests dependency is missing. Corresponding commits: |
Thanks for mentioning it Yuri. I wouldn't have caught it myself because my machine already had that dependency installed, through other packages. Yesterday's upload (8-1) got accepted. I'm pushing 8-2 now. Meanwhile, do you happen to know of Firefox builds, where they switched extensions to Chromium type ? I just wanted to do a verification to ensure nothing is fundamentally broken for Debian. |
Chromium extensions API (some part) is supported in latest stable 50. |
I would like to re-open this issue. I missed to report you the latest behavior. It still crashes here for me, during Chromium browser shutdown only. Apart from the crash, here's an exception that was captured in the Journal logs. I think this has happened because the internet connectivity was down. But this shouldn't result in an exception.
And here's the fresh crash log. I don't think the backtrace is very useful. Let me know if you need any more information.

As for Python exception - could you please check if all "manifest.json" files in Also is SIGSEGV reproducible? |
There's no manifest.json. I instead have metadata.json file, which does have it.
Regarding the segv, yes, on this machine it is reproducible. I haven't really tried it on another machine. Lemme check that too. |
Yes, you are right - it's correct name. You have 2 extensions without "version" key - |
Oh! Yes. They were installed from source. So, do you see the exception justified ? |
No, I will add workaround for it. |
Hi Yuri, I was able to reproduce the crash on a different box too. We need to find the root cause for the crash. |
I will setup Debian Sid vm and try to reproduce this issue |
Should be fixed in master. |
Thank you very much Yuri. |
With the newer version 8, I see a persistently reproducible crash happening, when starting the chromium browser. No functionality is lost, i.e. I can access extensions.gnome.org/local perfectly fine, even after the reported crash. The crash is happening in libgio.
