With 3D nearing, it seems like we probably need better anti-aliasing for the 3D ships. One option is Subpixel Morphological Anti-Aliasing that would probably fit the role. AMD Fidelity stuff can also be used for this, but it has the downside of requiring a much newer version of GLSL. I've gotten a working implementation but haven't merged because of this issue in the ffx branch.
