First, thanks for sharing this. I'm finding it very useful.

Question not an issue: Are there any technical reasons for including the regular instrument tests under AndroidSample and splitting out the other testing into separate projects? Could that all be put under AndroidSample? Or could/should the instrument tests but put into yet another project?

We tried to split the instrumentation tests and yes it looks possible. but i could not get it work properly with android studio #2

I also tried different project setups and finished with the given setup as the best working solution https://github.com/nenick/android-gradle-template/wiki/Different-appraoaches-to-combine-Robolectric-&-Espresso

here is an good looking solution but someone has reported that it not support robolectric tests in android libraries https://github.com/JCAndKSolutions/android-unit-test robolectric/robolectric-gradle-plugin#37
