For my application I would have to use Alsa directly, not Pulse..

Also, are there any plans to implement the Microsoft Client - Server Audio protocol (MS-RDPEAI) ?

Just curious...

Pulse was used in the beginning for 2 reason.

  • most apps try pulse first, then ALSA
  • ALSA is Linux only

Pulse has a virtual ALSA device so ALSA apps should work.
MS-RDPEA and MS-RDPEAI are both implemented.

Pulse is not used to send the audio to the client, for that MS-RDPEA and MS-RDPEAI are used. Pulse it just used to get the desktop audio data.

So I guess we have no plans for ALSA but I'm not totally against it.

I'm not against it, too. If someone implements it, I happy to merge it.

ok, thank you for clarification.

However, regarding (client-server audio): Is the README wrong then?

"However, our Microphone redirection (client to server) implementation is proprietary and doesn't implement the [MS-RDPEAI] specs. Its only supported by the following clients so far: NeutrinoRDP client and rdesktop."

It was correct at that time but is wrong now. The standard microphone redirection (not proprietary) is already implemented now.
