Forward credentials/access token from route handler in a request to another route handler

Hello,

I would like to have one route handler make a request to another route handler using the credentials that were used to access the first route handler. Essentially make another request on the user that was authenticated.

Something akin to this:

import { auth } from './auth'
import { NextAuthRequest } from 'next-auth/lib'

// This is the 1st route handler receiving the client request
export const POST = auth(async (req: NextAuthRequest) => {
    const { auth } = req

    // Do some work here...

    // Make this request to another (2nd) route handler using the credentials found in req.auth above
    const res = await fetch(`https://mydomain.com/api/some-other-route-handler`, {
        method: 'POST',
        // More request details...
        // Add auth details from req.auth above
    })
})

In my logs I see that the request I am making from the 1st route handler to the 2nd route handler is failing as it says it needs to be authenticated (which makes total sense).

Any help trying to implement this pattern or guidance on using a different pattern to achieve the same result would be very helpful. 🙏

Some additional notes:

• I am deploying to Vercel
• I am using NextJS version: 14.0.4
• I am using NextAuth/AuthJS version: 5.0.0-beta.3
