Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

I have my photos and videos on autoupload and activated the option to move the file to app folder. I have been using the Next/OwnCloud tools since 2013 and since then the auto upload of pictures has been a geht/geht-nicht (works/works-not) feature. And when the updload is missed, it could happen to a bunch of files and they all stay in the camera folder until moved manually.

I would like to have no files at all in my camera folder and all of them in a filder that is cloud synched. But I think this can be fixed :))

Describe the solution you'd like

Add two options to the auto upload item setup dialog:

  • If move to app folder is set, add option to "always move"
  • If move to app folder and always move are set, add option to state "also move existing files"

In the case of the "always move" option don't even try to upload the file, just move it to the app folder and let NextCloud handle the upload/sync later. You can do this immediately.

"Also move existing files" - or "Keep folder clean" - means to move any file that could be found in the source folder at any time to the app folder location defined by the "Use subfolders" setting.

The only thing that is needed would be some kind of a trigger to sync files when certain criterias are met - like instantly, or only when connected to wifi or charging.

Describe alternatives you've considered

I was looking for an app that would do what NextCloud does after uploading the file - move it to an appfolder with options how to place it - and then let NextCloud handling the sync. Nothing found yet.

@AndyScherzinger Ah, I see. You rally like your community to engage :)) Any hint on why this gets closed without even a comment?

Wanted to add a todays experience that I gave me a hint on what happens before files are not being auto uploaded, but who cares, right? Then I just dont do it.

My mistake @FredFoo, I accidentally closed the issue (working on the phone at the moment). So thanks for the hint, reopened 👍

As for handling existing files this should be described within #285 while nobody found the time to implement this since we should have hashes on the server first in order to implement a sync/compare for existing files on the server.

Oh, cool! :))

Then I tell my long story now and hope it helps.
Easter sunday morning I send my 2 year old on her first egg mission - and all of that had to go into pictures and video. Looooong video. So I

  1. shot a few pictures
  2. took the long video
  3. shot a few more pictures

I was connected to home wifi, but running all over the flat and usually that leads to some connection drops. The nc install is on a server on the other side of the world, upload is slow. When I checked the folder later I saw that the pictures from 1. were all there but not the video from 2. and none of the pictures from 3. For testing I shot some more pictures and they uploaded instantly and without problems.

But I could not find any entry anywhere that the video or any of the pictures tried to upload and failed. So I was left with those files still in the camera folder and no option to retry.

I guess the big video taking long to upload and failing also kept the pictures from being uploaded somehow. And thats where I thought if the files would be moved to the folder first and just added to the filelist the upload would just be handled by the normal sync feature.

Does #285 tell me that sync is acutally somehow to be implemented?
