Bug description

I updated Nextcloud Client on my Mac OS, but it happens that the new Nextcloud version is not compatible with my OS (which is Big Sur 11.7.10, and I am not able to download a newer OS as my mac is from 2013 and considered obsolete by Apple). So I downloaded and installed the Legacy version of Nextcloud Client for older Mac OS, but it is not working. The app opens for like 5 seconds, and then crashes. It just shows a grey NC icon in the top bar which turns into the green check mark and then disappears. Nothing is being synced on the nextcloud server during these few seconds. I had just enough time to copy a few logs before the app crash, see below.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Download Legacy NC Client for Mac OS (make sure your Mac OS is Big Sur 11)
  2. Change Mac security settings to allow the installation of the package as it is consider unsafe by Apple.
  3. Install the Client
  4. Go in Application and open Nextcloud app
  5. Notice that it crashes after a few seconds

Expected behavior

When opening NC client, it should remain open, with the icon active in the top bar, and I should be able to access its settings to configure the server.

Same here. I did the recommended update to 3.x only to learn that that version is not compatible with my macOS 11.7.10. To tell the truth, I do not know which version was successfully running before.

I then tried the legacy client 2.6.5.20200710-legacy.pkg with the same effects as described here except that is automatically restarted after each crash, in an endless loop that removes the current keyboard focus on each restart.

I also tried the earlier Nextcloud-2.6.2.20191224-legacy.pkg from the GitHub site with the same result.

After that, I found an even older Nextcloud-2.5.1.20181204.pkg (without "legacy" in its name) in my Downloads folder, downloaded March 2019. Although I assume I had this one running before, it also crashes in the same manner. So I wonder if the driver software itself is causing the problems or if it is in connection with the local configuration data, maybe after the unsuccessful 3.x update.

Same issue here. Repeated what @Kater--S did as well and came had the same results.

Same issue with macOS Big Sur 11.7.10 and Nextcloud 2.6.5.20200710-legacy
I hope a quick update will come as many people in my team can't work anymore...

Same here.
I now installed version 3.3.0 (not legacy) and that one seems to work. You can get it from here: https://download.nextcloud.com/desktop/releases/Mac/Installer/

Works like a charm, thank you. I also turned off the "automatically check for updates" switch in order to not accidentally update again into a non-working version :-)

Same issue here.
I started the Nextcloud client in the terminal and got this error message before it crashed:
$ ~ /Applications/nextcloud.app/Contents/MacOS/nextcloud

Perhaps this will help with debugging.
I downloaded v3.10.0 from here and was able to install and run it on macOS 11.7.10.

It seems to work indeed. What about 3.10.1?

According to the system requirements (3.9, 3.10) 3.9 is the last version to support macOS 10.14+. 3.10 requires macOS 12+. I installed 3.9.4 and it works. Have not tried 3.10.

3.10.0 works well, launch at startup and do not crash
