Applications: Design review tasks

@enjeck I created this as a follow up task to collect the feedback during the design review call so we can track implementing that

• collapse navigation by default when navigating to application
• Applications: Backend/frontend - Indicate active context in the navigation #933
• Skip modal and do editing directly in the page once I click new application without going through a form dialog (future)
• Randomize icons like for table creation
• more whitespace below tables list
