node-red-node-snmp cannot communicate with SNMP enabled devices like APC Netbotz that use 32bit OIDs. The bug is in node-asn1, which is a dependency of node-net-snmp.

There appears to be no activity in either node-asn1 or node-net-snmp to fix this bug.

That is a good question. What to do when a dependency does not appear to be maintained? Fork the entire dependency tree? We currently apply a patch to node-asn1 after we build node-red.

is it worth looking at this fork https://github.com/shanept/node-net-snmp ?
or could asn1 be patched as a postinstall script action ?

The developer of node-net-snmp has cloned node-asn1 to node-asn1-ber and has fixed the bug there.
