I think its time we had a show on the internet of things given the interesting things going on in the node community around this.

I'd like to suggest the following guests:

  • The usual show cast
  • Jialiya Huang (@jiahuang) or Tim Ryan (@tcr) from Technical.io, which is building an arduino style low power device that includes a node.js execution envitornment.
  • Tim Park (@timfpark, aka me): Maintainer of nitrogen.js, which is a platform based on node.js for enabling devices like these to securely communicate with each other and with applications (see http://github.com/nitrogenjs/service). This platform is based on my experience building a similar closed platform at Nest Labs.
  • @nexxy, @rockbot: To share their experiences and perspectives with what the open hardware community is building and what they see as the biggest difficulties, etc..

PS. I'll be at nodeconf.eu if any of you happen to be there and want to discuss.

@mcollina would be great for this, as would @wolfeidau who is chief nerd at NinjaBlocks these days.

If you want me in, I can speak about the MQTT protocol, why it matters for the internet of things, and why HTTP is not really the solution. Obiouvsly I'll talk about MQTT.js and my MQTT broker Mosca.
I'll be speaking about the same stuff at nodeconf.eu!

Thanks @rvagg for the mention!

YES! =D 👍 love this topic

I also have a keen interest in this area, as I am currently working on migrating some of our stuff over to MQTT.

Mite be nice to make this a discussion independent, to some degree from the internet of things with a view to explore some of the protocols available to node developers. This subject would more than fill an entire show.

These really fall into:

  • HTTP 1.x the old guard..
  • HTTP 2.x
  • Websockets
  • dnode RPC
  • MQTT aka Messaging

The reason I mention this is it really overlaps into mobile and gaming applications with facebook choosing MQTT for push notifications on Andriod as an example.

Would be great to get one of the node core guys to discuss what the plan is for http -> http2

Ooo. Maybe a separate protocols show with @wolfeidau (who nerds out on this stuff) @mcollina, perhaps @indutny and @izs

Re-start. I'm in SF between the 19th and 21st of December. How about doing it live?

@mcollina I can't do it live, but I could very possibly do this show on the 19th since #20 had to reschedule.

@timfpark Are you available then?

yes, let me know if we are on for today - and who to call on Skype if we are... otherwise, I'm pretty open for the next month if today doesn't work...

We're not confirmed for today... but I'd love to. Let me see if @floating is available.

Could we pull in another +1 or +2 at the last minute for the show?

@mcollina

I'm available until 12:30.

@mcollina @timfpark Doesn't look like we're going to be able to do today. Let's finalize the other two panelists and schedule something for gage new year.

I would love to listen to this one! And while listening to the NodeUp, have @timfpark and @mcollina pop up robots for us to control remotely :D

I have something better: I can control a robot at your home 🚨

I am building skynet to control all the robots.

(killer time traveling robots not included)

I can join whenever - let me know.

I would love to join you guys on the show to talk about how my new open source @skynetim M2M IM project fits into Node.JS-powered IoT platforms. We are using some of @mcollina MQTT technologies too! Checkout this SkyNetIM + LeapMotion + NodeCopter video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4iJYeK6wFBs
