The site starts it, but lets expand it so we can put our thumb on what it is that we are doing.

From the site: "a conference about questioning assumptions, experimentation, and rebuilding what's already there"

My proposal:

Our mission is to foster a welcoming and inclusive community for those who are questioning assumptions, experimenting, and rebuilding existing tools and projects. We strive to achieve this creating a safe place to discuss ideas, give and receive feedback, and encourage each other.

Definitely could use work, may be good to expand into a vision or manifesto (perhaps akin to: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/about/manifesto/ )

I still subscribe to the Guy Kawasaki school of mission statements: they should be one sentence and describe what you do, not what you want to do.

Here's a few ideas:

  • Building what's been built.
  • Very little worth doing hasn't been done before.
  • Re-writing sacred cows for fun and education.

I'd also love to find some great quotes.

"The good thing about reinventing the wheel is that you can get a round one." -- Douglas Crockford

  • No cow is sacred.

While I don't think EA actually does this anymore, I loved their intro "Challenge Everything" http://youtu.be/lPYkOMj-3iI
