The npm source can be somewhat intimidating to contribute to, and when things seem, lets say, unconventional, I'm never sure if it's intentional exploration of alternative coding styles, something hastily pushed in a late night coding binge, or my technical chops just aren't at the level required to understand the code.

Lets go through the components and dependencies of npm in some kind of roundtable discussion and talk about what @isaacs and @othiym23 look forward to improving, rewriting, or throwing away, what areas of the code outside contributors should focus on.

This could also include architectural discussions, such as moving the npm api to a separate package and what that should look like, or discussions around additional tooling that would help improve supporting and improving the product such as a npm-debug.log uploader.

This could also be a separate event, or something that happens the day before.
