Numix-Square checkboxes not clear

Numix-Square checkboxes on Antergos are very difficult to see whether they are checked or not.

Compare this to the clarity of Breeze-Dark theme.

Is this a distro issue or a setting somewhere or do the icons need to be changed?

Not a gtk person so take what I say with a pinch of salt, but iirc the issue here is that that application uses icons for checkboxes rather than gtk checkbox elements. I'm not sure why changing the gtk theme would affect that though
