Can you elaborate on what you mean by that? rhash is required to verify the download checksums and the script should issue an error if it isn't installed in your live environment. Did you observe wrong behavior?

i'm having the same issue. do we need to use the stage3 tarball as the chroot environment?

I'm still unsure what issue you are referring to exactly. Where does the phrase "app-crypto/rhash not in image" appear?
For the script I recommend using an arch live stick as the installation environment, if that's what you're asking.

it appears when I run the install script on the gentoo live ISO. had no idea that you could use non-live-ISO environments for the install (pretty neat)

That's interesting, so apparently there's a rhash wrapper in the ISO that prints this error? Very weird. You obviously need the actual program here, so maybe you can just emerge it?

It's noted in the first sentence of the Quick Start section of the readme, as using arch as an installation medium is a lot more convenient. The installer can then automatically grab all the needed tools, or even ZFS modules if required (which would be near impossible on a gentoo live stick)

To get back to the issue at hand: I'm not quite sure what's the root problem here and if it can even be fixed in the installer. If there is indeed an rhash wrapper bundled with the gentoo ISO, it's the same as if rhash wouldn't exist - with the unfortunate side-effect that this installer wouldn't be able to detect it. The only fix would be to emerge the actual rhash tool. Not sure whether I can do anything in the installer to fix this.
