no sound on Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit #691
Comments
Comment author: @bob-the-hamster You installed using the deb files from http://hamsterrepublic.com/ohrrpgce/archive/debian/ right? Can you post the output of: ldd `which ohrrpgce-game` Have you tested any other games that use libsdl-mixer1.2 for sound output? I'm currently in the process of upgrading my Ubuntu box to 8.10, but it is a 32 bit machine, not a 64 bit machine, so I don't know yet whether or not I will be able to reproduce the problem. |
Comment author: @sorlok I've no experience with Ubuntu 8.10, but I have used the 64-bit version of 8.04. From my experience, the driver support is buggier in the 64-bit version of the Operating System. Let me know if the you have trouble tracking down the problem; I have a spare partition I can install 64-bit 8.10 onto if the need arises. |

Rise of the Triad's sound and music work fine. |
Comment author: @bob-the-hamster egasimus, does this problem still occur for you? I was wondering which version of the 32-bit libsdl you have installed? You should have a choice of -pulseaudio -nas -oss -arts -alsa and -esd On my own (32 bit) system, I am using the pulseaudio one, but that is connecting to the 32-bit pulseaudio daemon. I wonder what would happen if you match 32 bit pulseaudio sdl with 64 bit pulseaudio daemon, or the same with esd, nas, or others. |
Comment author: @bob-the-hamster no news on this one in many months, reducing severity |
They still haven't gotten back to us! |

I installed OHRRPGCE on a new installation of Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit. At first, it refused to run, and ldd output was:
...
libmikmod.so.2 => not found
libvorbisfile.so.3 => not found
libsmpeg-0.4.so.0 => not found
...
although said packages were installed. So I used getlibs (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=474790), which made OHRRPGCE run. However, no sound is played, and when I try to change the volume from the in-game menu, ohrrpgce-game freezes.
