Doesn't look like the cli has an watch/rebuild mode (new feature?). So was just going to use the api to do a build and then run that with nodemon watching my source directories to get an auto rebuild. Do you suggest another (better) way? I can run a web server separately.

I did as I suggested and it seems to be working so I am closing this although if you have a better idea please share.

You can use docma serve command for a handy, quick server to test your docs.
Available with Docma v2.0.0+

Sorry for not opening a new issue but is there a way to run the serve command but also reload on changes? I had hoped to see something like docma serve --watch.
