App does not work anymore (Android 8, 9, 10, 11, ..)

This app seems to require read access to /system/build.prop which not granted to apps anymore. I am not sure which Android version was the last one that allows to do so but on Android 8 and later it does not work anymore.

Unfortunately this is not visible to the user as the app does swallow all error messages instead of logging them on logcat.

Therefore the app can not work anymore.

Consequently, should this issue be primarily that this software should provide its errors via logcat rather than deliberately suppress them (if it is)?
