I started writing some docs at https://github.com/open-eio/Open-Pipe-Kit/wiki/Install-on-Raspberry-Pi but was running out of space on my 4GB card. Looking into it I remembered that Rasparian comes with a whole GUI and am now wondering what the best base OS install is for a headless Pi.

I found some suggestions at http://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/5258/how-can-i-remove-the-gui-from-raspbian-debian

@treehouse-su Can you suggest some tips here? What's that math package that takes 700mb called from Wolfram? Mathematica?

Sounds promising. Worth a look. Worried about long term support though.
