I'd like to ... be able to communicate an overview of software and file formats related to the datasets in the OTN registry

Many of the datasets are tabular in nature — coming in formats like CSV, TSV or Excel sheets — but there might be some formats in use that are more specific, or software already aware of certain aspects of the dataset (e.g. the inclusion of the iris dataset in R or pandas). It would be good if the dataset registration process at OTN could include relevant information, e.g. via an additional field in the dataset registration form.
