Dear OpenELEC

With the release:

OpenELEC-ION.x86_64-devel-20120122010258-r9607.tar.bz2
OpenELEC-ION.x86_64-devel-20120122172128-r9616.tar.bz2

"Sometimes" I got no sound, I mean just about 50% of the boot comes with the sound, otherwise as I play a file I got the Message: "Error initializing the sound device, check sound configuration". Changing the sound configuration is useless... I have to reboot.

Then I downgraded to r9469 and the problem disappear. With the previous release i've never had that problem

My sound goes on the SPDIF.

Ciao.
Davide.

The problem is still present with the new release

OpenELEC-ION.x86_64-devel-20120125155045-r9647.tar.bz2

Moreover With this build at the boot I get the message " ERROR in script lcdmain.py" too.

Thanks.
Davide.

I Have some more information:

Until R9469 beta1, the last working, in the sound options I can choose between a few choises (Defaults,Custom, usb IEC958, usb defaults, HDA Nvidia HDMI, HDA Nvidia IEC958, HDA Nvidia Defaults, HDMI, IEC958).

Starting from the following R (BETA2) I found out that for many of the previous choises there are 4 copies, I mean for example: HDA Nvidia ie958-0, HDA Nvidia ie958-1, HDA Nvidia ie958-2, HDA Nvidia ie958-3.

I'm quite sure the problem in correlated with these copies...

I tried an "aplay -l" via SSH but it seems that in the beta the SSH is close.

Thanks.
Davide

You need to enable ssh. Take a look at http://openelec.tv/find-help/documentation/faq/item/224-i-run-nightly-and-ssh-doesnt-work-anymore-why?

Once you get ssh working do a post with aplay -l, cat /proc/asound/cards and cat/proc/asound/modules`. Paste back when you get them

Thanks,
Raul

SSH enabled.

I ran into the same issue. I have filled it as #201.
Here is the quick and dirty fix for it.

echo 'blacklist snd_usb_audio' >> ~/.config/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

Give it a shot and report back.

I get this error... where I am wrong?

root ~ # cat 'blacklist snd_usb_audio' >> ~/.config/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

cat: can't open 'blacklist snd_usb_audio': No such file or directory

use echo command rather then cat

I wrote blacklist < blacklist snd_usb_audio> with the samba share in the file <config/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf>.

I deleted asound.conf (as the default)
Set in system -> audio the default/iec958 values

And it works !!!

Thanks a lot !!!

That's right... however, who really needs an usb sound device on a xbmc box?

@viljoviitanen

@davidepirovano Please don't make statements like that, you don't obviously know at all how people use their xbmc boxes.

@viljoviitanen : You're right....Sorry... My sentence was only "statistical" and maybe just a little bit influenced by the problem caused to my sound by the usb device bug...
