Contributed by Timo Homburg for the white paper "Benefits of Representing Spatial Data using Semantic and Graph Technologies":

The GeoSPARQL query language currently only supports functions capable of dealing with 2D geometries. However, with the emergence of standards such as CityGML which could be supported as GML literals, specific 3D-aware functions should be added to GeoSPARQL to accommodate such recent developments.
Suggestions:

  • 3D-aware functions of the RCC8 calculus
  • ST_Distance3D
  • ST_Length3D
  • ST_Difference3D
