USER SUBMITTED: I updated our routers from 1.0 to 1.1 only to find that users were required to click through the welcome splash screen regardless of the fact that I set the welcome screen to off. My neighbors find the welcome screen interferes with their use of the internet.

I could not reproduce the bug you identified, and need some more info. If you could please review the steps I used when trying to reproduce it, and let me know where I went wrong, I would appreciate it.

Steps followed to reproduce.

  • Flash a M2 PicoStation with Version 1.1rc1 from commotionwireless.net/download/routers/
  • I opened up a chrome browser
  • I went through the Setup Wizard creating one mesh interface and one access point interface
  • I did NOT use a password for my access point
  • Once I completed the setup wizard I went to the Administration menu
  • After logging in I went to the Client Controls menu

welcome

  • I then turned off the welcome page on/off checkbox
    welcome_off
  • I clicked the Save button at the bottom of the page.

save_button

  • I was taken to a page to confirm my choice that looked like the following.

confirm

  • I clicked the Save and Apply button on that page
  • I was taken to a page that stated it was applying changes.
  • I waited while the waiting text switched from "apply changes..." to "/etc/config/nodogsplash" until it finally looked like the following image.

done

  • I then plugged the router into an ethernet port connected to the internet
  • I restarted the router so that it would get a dhcp lease from the internet
  • I then connected to the access point I had created
  • I finally typed www.cnn.com into my browser (because it does not have https)
  • I was immediately taken to cnn.com without hitting a splash page.

After this I turned the splash page on and off using the advanced and basic menu a series of times and it successfully turned on and off each time.

If you could provide more information on what process you followed I will continue to explore the problem you encountered.

I submitted the original issue and may have figured the problem out.
Only by going to "Services", "Captive Portal" and checking
"Immediately Authenticate" does the welcome page never show up.
The other "on/off" check boxes under "Services" or under "Client Controls" don't seem to fully turn off the welcome page.
I haven't done a great deal of testing of this because I need to get on with keeping my neighbors routers running, but checking "Immediately Authenticate" seems to have solved the problem of the welcome page blocking some of my neighbors use of their node
