Can we define an element that can provide the information appropriately to screen readers, accept data via an attribute (since that would offer a very nice authoring experience), and be styled to match a brand/theme?

Not trying to compete with D3, but in many cases developers don't care about implementation details, they just need to represent some data in a chart style (line, bar, etc). Would be interesting to see how far CSS can take most of the presentation while the component handles the accessibility.
