checksum errors reported on offline volumes during scrub

Describe how to reproduce the problem

offline volumes, physically remove from system, run scrub

Include any warning/errors/backtraces from the system logs

Feel free to bug Ubuntu to cherrypick it if you want it fixed in their releases.
