Load a dataset
Set a bad value contained in the dataset
Enable dynamic textures on the raster layer
Use a colormap (something without any transparency works well...for example: Primaries)
Notice that the bad value pixels do not show numbers when zoomed (indicating they are bad values) but are still colored by the colormap but should be transparent.
