Many interesting pull requests are waiting to be merged and there is no comment on the last issues. How could we help in maintaining it?

I personally would be interested in updating to Java 8, and dropping the dependency to Guava (kill two birds with one stone, as Guava replicates many features now in Java 8)

Don't think it is maintained... Last commit is in 2016. Hmm
