This is a terrible page that does an extremely poor job of explaining lists. It really should be thrown in the bin and started again. For some reason the example is not simple and easy to understand, it's a very complex use case, something to do with virtual hosting, nginx, dynamic configuration? Man could you have chosen a more complex and confusing example to explain lists? It's hard to work out if you are explaining couchdb or explaining a virtual hosting configuration system. Rip this page up and start again, beginning with the most simple possible list and build it up with a very easy to understand use case.
