I am developing a "VOD" platform with pimcore and we are now in the stage of moving the videos from YouTube over to local files.
Currently for local files I am using the video asset type, but I do see certain limitations:
Different screen sizes can use different video sizes
A Video Object can have multiple actual video assets (and/or channels, subtitles, etc) associated to it
It is sometimes better to not return the actual video file but to stream the file instead to the browser
I could develop a custom solution for my project, but I also wanted to check in with the community for whether this would be something the project should benefit from. Like maybe we have an extended Video-Data-Object that can handle those sorts of things.
Personally I think the handling of Videos should/could be handles similar how we handle thumbnails right now.

For streaming and transcoding purposes I am thinking this could be a helpful tool, especially since ffmpeg is always present anyways: https://github.com/aminyazdanpanah/PHP-FFmpeg-video-streaming
