Customer and User relationship

Hello devs, so I have been stuck with this problem with hours now. I have the implementation where I have customers. They can signup and login independently. The problem is that each time a customer signs up, the corresponding user is not created.
I want to be persisted objects that the customer is creating and setting the userOwner on the fly. Each time I set the UserOwner it persists as the User unknown. The way I set it is getting the user (customer) from the security interface

$user = $this->security->getUser();

if (!($user instanceof Customer)) {
   return;
}

 $object->setUserOwner($user->getIdEncoded());
$object->setUserModification($user->getIdEncoded());
