Accomodate per-channel greetings #14
Comments
Cool idea - Have you considered using the Slack command "/topic" ? |
240 char max among some other downsides (only one line prominent unless hovering, etc.) |
Ok @patcon I merged your PRs, feel free to close down the issues ! Thanks for your commitment 👍 |
I can haz re-open? |
Has anyone made this work yet? I'd like to have a greeting in channel too. |
Unfortunately, no, I didn't make time to work on it 😞 It's not a priority for my group right now, but I'd be happy to support you (and any future travellers through this thread) in making the code contribution if you're interested! (Not to assume you need my help with anything, but just saying that I'm happy to support if it's appreciated :) (I haven no special status in this repo, but @orliesaurus seems supportive of merging contributions, so I'm sure we could all get it merged in 🎉 ) |
I am part of an organization where we want to greet users when they first enter our open
#organizing
channel, and explain the steps to taking part meaningfully in our groupgreetingslack is so close to accommodating this, so I was hoping you might be open to an idea :)
Two things would be required:
For (2), I could easily imagine this taking the form of channel name being derived from envvars of a certain pattern, like
GREETINGSLACK_MESSAGE_*
So:
GREETINGSLACK_MESSAGE_RANDOM
would be the message for#random
GREETINGSLACK_MESSAGE_ORGANIZING_OPEN
would be the message for#organizing-open
Curious your thoughts! Thanks so much for you consideration :)
