This is way better, because you can customize it on startup!
e.g. user creation, hostname selection, keyboard layout.
see /usr/lib/live/config/* in the live system

I think the following flags are interesting:

LIVE_KEYBOARD_LAYOUTS=de LIVE_TIMEZONE=Europe/Berlin LIVE_USERNAME=kali LIVE_USER_FULLNAME=kali LIVE_USER_DEFAULT_GROUPS=kali,admin,sudo,wireguard
