You could host applications and other packages on NPM. Description and details of them should be added in package.json and metadata.json. Website should then only be for viewing packages that are available so installation won't depend on it.

Mhm. I really want this for v3. I'm working on the APIs for actual installation via the client (and also some expanded CLI stuff).
The goal is to support pretty much everything: npm, git and archives.
As for aggregation of sources, there isn't anything at the moment, but on npmjs all OS.js stuff is tagged with osjs which makes it a lot easier to find. Same goes for github, but I haven't looked into APIs for getting results on that.
You should add support for OS.js v3.
