The center point is already at 15% if you use 'Map orientation according to direction of motion', please try. For map orientations 'North is up' or 'According to compass' a position marker off center makes of course no sense.

Thank you very much!
To me it makes also sense when using orientation by compass.
Why not implement a switch and let the user choose?

Orientation by compass has no objectively prevailant direction, so it seems unclear why there should be an option to use it permantly? Unless, of course, checking out a specific viewing direction, and for that cou can pan the map temporarily?

Orientation by compass is my standardsetting for hiking because orientation by direction of moving doesn麓t work well.
On my tour it is not necessary to see the map behind me but it would be really helpful tl see more of the map in front of me.
Panning the map manually didn麓t solve this issue because the mapview keeps not centered on my position.

Maybe you could try the feature in Locus. There you can see how useful it will be.

I support this request.

The center point is already at 15% if you use 'Map orientation according to direction of motion', please try. For map orientations 'North is up' or 'According to compass' a position marker off center makes of course no sense.

An off center position marker is very useful for "North is up" as well when following a route:
this allows to show much more of the route ahead.

Please consider the following illustration where the orange pointer now represents the position marker:

Current behavior
(position marker in center):
pointer-center (Klein)

Desired behavior
(position marker moved back in reference to the active route)
pointer-backwards (Klein)

My TomTom car navigation device uses such a setting as default when using north is up, it works very nicely (when zooming in or out the position marker is placed in such a location of the screen that as much of the route ahead is visible on te screen).

It would be great to have this option to for cycling navigation with OsmAnd.

Now I see, thanks for the screenshots.

Yes, could be a useful feature for everyone who uses "North is up" screen orientatiion while moving/ navigating.

Yes it could be useful probably on some tablets though it would require to update it for each track whether you go from E -> W or W -> E

Regarding

whether you go from E -> W or W -> E,

as I understand it now, the idea would be to simply

  • place the MyPosition marker "back" from the screen center,
  • by a certain fixed percentage of the screen width (or height, whichever is smaller),
  • where "back" simply means "the opposite direction of the projected track". (This eliminates and E/W thinking, i.e. could also be "diagonally".)
