馃殌 POIs based stage planning

First of all: Thank you all for this App. It is my favorite application on my phone and definitive makes it a so important tool (This is not phrase, I am really celebrating Osmand each time when I am in the wild). Thanks also for all the improvements over time. I think I am kind of an heavy user in the hiking segment.

Description

The following planning scenario:

  • I want to plan a multi day hike
  • ' have a rough idea about the course/direction,
  • rough idea about the distance or amount of time that can be used for hiking at each day
  • and a fix idea, which group of properties making a good camping side.

ATM: I have a group of POIs I shown on the map ("shelter"+"spring"+"camp site"...). During trip planning I watch the kilometers grow, from the last fix point and add my planed daily average from my head. When I hit the maximal distance I look for a suitable place, plan to this point, remember the kilometers and proceed this way for the next day (stages). This way I need to do the math in my head, and each time I change the course I need to find a good camp site again according the changes (and for all subsequent ones). I have no segmentation shown on my planed route.

Describe the solution you'd like

Per Profile settings:

  • set/choose a group of POIs鹿 where all/some of them should be met in a place, where I like to end a stage (e.g. shelter with spring)
  • set a max distance, I would like to walk/drive in one stage distance
  • POIs on Track tolerance (percent?) distance tolerance (percent of stage) in which POIs should be shown along the track before and after the stage end.
  • POIs off Track tolerance (percent?) How much tolerance around stages end but away from track/course

story

When I plan a route, I hit starting point and endpoint and I get a graph. This graph is already segmented by my set stages. And around those stages in the tolerances (on/off-track) I can see options where I could camp. Of course the routing graph is not perfect yet. So I add points in between for a more detailed planning and always the suggested POIs of StagesEnd are updated according to my expected distance.

considerations

  • I don't know, how complex the routing is use for the graph in the planning mode. If the same algorithm is use as for navigation, that the stage distance might even be set in the spacial or in the time domain. Since i can set the "vehicle" speed in the profile, time would be also a very good indication for "needing a break"
  • The hole planing mechanism could be abstracted to a another level. (minor stages in between the daily stages) Not for the daily stages, but for the distances, during a stage (breaks for food, gas refills, power naps...) With other POIs because, now I want to find a restaurant, or in the car profile a LPG gas station...

Describe alternatives you've considered

The above Idea is implemented in the planing mode. I was also thinking, If trip planning wizard would be handy. But since most of this should be a profile settings the actual feature of segmentation and showing the POIs does not need much more user interaction. Maybe would be interesting to use those profile settings in tweaked version of "show along the road" in navigation mode. -> "show along the road 4 hours after you had the last known chance to eat breakfast" :).

please reach out!

I hope I was able to describe my request in a understandable way and other wise you do not hesitate to reach out to me.

Again thanks a lot, for this handy app.

鹿 POI management could be another feature request. I should be easier/more intuitive to generate a POI, that groups some POIs with including/excluding properties. But this is another story #15677 . (but actually one of the most powerful capabilities to utilize the OSM data in real life.)

Yes, it sounds important to plan route based on POIs and include these POI's into track. We're thinking to have feature of generated tracks based on POI's selected

That sound like a good idea as well. But additional to this I would like to underline the spacial/timing based framing based on an amount one thinks he want's to do in one stage. Because doing the math in the head should not be necessary and mixed up latter stages, if do changes to an earlier one.

Maybe it can be a feature, where you set up a good stage end in you profile. In this stages end settings you can set (a group of) POIs and a favorite stages length. Then when you plan the route, you see the POIs shown close and on the track each time the stagesMax are marked. Then you choose youre first StagesEnd. This is the new starting point for the next stage, with the same behaviour.
