The current text quoted below is a bit short about the volunteers, it could be more attractive.
"Contributors: people who add or update data on OpenStreetMap. The majority of these are volunteers; some are humanitarian workers or are employed by companies."

Could something be built from the 'mapper of the month' series?

@yvecai do you have a suggestion for the text? It could link to mapper of the month if there's a list of all of them.

Please dear god no. I'm happy with the Belgians choosing whoever they want for mapper of the month, but the choices have in the past occasionally demonstrated very bad judgement, selectiong individuals that were and are outright damaging to OSM. This is not something we want to highlight.

Let’s keep this simple. If you have 1 good specific sentence to add to that bullet in the article, please suggest it

Somehow "The majority of these are volunteers; some are humanitarian workers or are employed by companies" rings wrong. It is not just the majority of OSM contributors, it is 99% (at least), nothing against mentioning corporate contributors but it should be in a way that makes the proportions clear.

@woodpeck Any feedback on the selection of mappers for MOTM is welcome, but I don't think we ever received any. If you want an interview, that shouldn't be a problem.

demonstrated where, how ? We are open for improvement but pretending that there is a huge bunch of people that agree with this claim doesn't add weight as we haven't received any. Since this is a bit off-topic too, feel free to send us your feedback and constructive criticism.
