Are there plans to support VP9 instead of h264? Because it will save a lot of traffic for viewers.

Better use AV1 instead.... VP9 is not very nice regarding processor power on some systems and AV1 takes even less bandwidth than VP9

As far as I understand, AV1 does not have WebRTC support? Or how can it be reproduced?
If the stream comes in h264 -> rtc -> AV1

no, absolutely NOT, AV1 was developed to replace the old dino webrtc codecs like vp8, vp9
