It seems i am not able to install this app in the latest owncloud release. Is there a special procedure to adopt for this version?

It is supported ;) Check your logs, check if you updated the app framework. If nothing else works, open an issue in core.

Well is none are listed in the apps section of the new owncloud. Any hints why?

Appstore or core problem

Just a quick hint: you can also install it from git, see https://github.com/owncloud/news#git-development-version

I update to owncloud 6. Your app is working, I mean can see the articles in dashboard plugin or android application, but from the browser, it stays on loading the page. I have the total number of articles on left (and details on categories) but the circle loading on right ?
Already empty my browser cache, same. Firefox 26 and 28

And if you can answer me also, is there anyway to force the appstore to update the list ? Your app was not on my list, so I reinstall by downloading (and also update from git but still buggy for me)

Logs?

I dont know about the appstore. Maybe setting required OC version to 5 blocks it from being installed on 6? no idea really

FYI theres no way to set it to owncloud6 without making it useless for owncloud5

I don't know if it's related, I just find this in log and your app is the only one in function to use the appframework :
{"app":"PHP","message":"json_encode(): Invalid UTF-8 sequence in argument at /var/www/yunohost/apps/owncloud/apps/appframework/http/jsonresponse.php#90","level":2,"time":"2013-12-12T19:58:57+00:00"}

Look like just a display issue, the display in dashboard and android are ok.
So if you need to break owncloud 5 support to get it work, this will be happening ? Maybe by using the git repo as an installation source first ?

Yes thats your issue, the invalid utf-8 sequence. Thats an entirely different issue though. Check your database settings (and google that ;) ). Its not a display issue since this will cause the JSON to be invalid for the webinterface.

As for the appstore issue: I dont care. Either the appstore devs will fix this or not. People that need the app now can always install it from the repo

@lunarok can you try if 321584d fixed it?

For the display not better, for the error log, it changes :)
{"app":"PHP","message":"iconv(): Detected an illegal character in input string at /var/www/yunohost/apps/owncloud/apps/news/db/item.php#162","level":2,"time":"2013-12-12T21:02:56+00:00"}

I just check on my side the database, everything is in UTF-8, so yes before your message I relay on articles or feeds I get issue. But, still working with android app (fix I don't understand, if it's an encoding issue and the framework was answering badly, that any way to display information will be affected, but I'm lucky they get different ways)

@lunarok the utf8 stuff sounds very familiar
owncloud/core#6302 should fix it

@BernhardPosselt

@miicha oh wow, that would indeed be awesome if that fixed it.

on the http://apps.owncloud.com/content/show.php/News?content=158434 it says "depends on ownCloud 5", I guess that's the reason why it doesn't show in ownCloud 6 app list.

Reverted the commits, please try the fix in core instead.

@csslayer iirc it should be handled like 5+ as in: compatible with 5 or higher.

@Raydiation : has not work for me the core diff. But has the core diff is showing issue with old PHP and I get the warning on admin dashboard, I will move first my owncloud instance to an updated server. Will see if it's enough. (This one is on squeeze because of the yunohost)

@lunarok did you clear cache and logout, login after the patch?, can you post errors/warnings from js-console?

@lunarok

lunarok commented Dec 13, 2013

@miicha : yes, I just do it. Log off, purge cache and log in. Still same. Still have errors about Invalid UTF-8 sequence.
I will migrate from a squeeze server to a ubuntu 13.04 for check.

When will News-App be available via official "app-store"?

@BernhardPosselt

In detail: the app is published and available, it just doesn't show up in the oc apps list interface for whatever reason. I assume it's because it only displays apps with minimum version 6. I can set it to 5 or 6 exclusively which means dropping support for all versions that are not selected. Support for 5 will only be dropped once it's officially not supported anymore.
