I would appreciate an option to hide or collapse posts so that they don't take space or attention in my timeline. Mosts posts I don't care about anyway and the ones I've read I usually don't need to see in my timeline anymore. I've tried a few other clients for Mastodon/Fediverse and I have not noticed such a feature in any of the clients.

Hi, thanks for the feature request.

I'm a little unsure on what you mean, especially about the user experience if this option existed and was enabled. Can you describe in more detail what you'd expect to see?

What I mean is that I want to handle my timeline in Pachli like my email inbox: delete items or move items to an archive folder.

Right now I have to scroll back and forth if I want to read older items and manually/visually scan through all items I have already seen. Instead of making the items invisible, they could be reduced to a single line showing just the account and a timestamp.

An alternative would be showing the post using a different font color or adding some icon to items read.

So you'd have to take an action on each post (e.g., swipe it away) to mark it as "read" in some way? Or you think this should happen automatically as you scroll?

Yes, that is how I imagined it. Just scrolling would defeat the purpose. However, coupled with a delay this might also be an useful option.
