There should be a placeholder if no chat is selected. In the Telegram group, we iterated on a few ideas and the version in the screenshot below was agreed to be the best of the bunch:
No Chat selected

In addition, I drew up a version with the buttons disabled and a disclaimer, stating that the feature is still in development:
No Chat selected with disclaimer and disabled buttons
