It is such a pain to enable cheats, save and then turn off.
Then take out the SD Card and .off the cheat and save, place the SD back in and restart the game.
Was there any plans to introduce a toggle? I say was because it seems the last work was back in 2014?

The purpose of this project was to add a memory-resident "code handler" and fixing the boot simulator in Alt64. From that point of view, it was a success.

There was never any intention to work on the UI or make any architectural improvements that would support it. I will be archiving this repo, since there are no further plans for it.

For any additional feature requests, you should probably follow the Altra64 fork, which has a lot of (necessary) code hygiene and various UX improvements.

See also #4 for more info on troubles this project has faced due to segmented development.
