The flora in this mod is unparalleled among every mod I've played. However, the fauna leaves something to be desired. The following is a loose list of some ideas I've had:

  • Flying pigs: essentially just large pink bats. Opportunistic scavengers that will steal mob drops. like to hang from the underside of crimson trees.

  • Fungal Flumph: inspired by the dungeons and dragons creature. Floating mushroom-like creature with hanging tendrils, can be found in mushroom forests. Scared of the player, will flee on sight. Flumph jelly is highly saturating.

  • Spectres: miniature ghasts that follow their larger counterparts around. Attacking one angers nearby ghasts. They have a higher droprate for tears than their larger cousins do.

  • Hell Hogs: part dog, part pig, all nasty. These small pack hunters spawn anywhere hoglins or piglins spawn. Will attack both, as well as the player. As soon as one sees a target, the rest are alerted to its location. Will not attack zombie pigmen.

  • Wart beetles: found anywhere nether wart blocks are. These arthropods live in wart blocks similar to silverfish, and come in red and blue variants for the two variants of warts.

  • Salamander flies: these dragonfly-like hunters prey on fireflies and wart beetles. They get their name from their immunity to fire, and they use fires and soul fires to quickly fly upwards via the updrafts. Common in nether swamps.

  • Soul Eaters: a variant of skeleton found in soul sand. They spawn in small patches, and can be identified by the occasional skeletal arms that rise out of the sand. Most common in the soulsand valleys and soul plains, but can spawn rarely anywhere soulsand does. They attempt to pull players and other things into their soulsand block. If the the block is broken they pop out and attack via melee.

  • Black Moths: These curious critters are similar to moths, but are eusocial, forming nests on and around glowstone clusters. They will swarm anyone holding a light source, causing suffocation with a large enough swarm. Their nests can be broken to get random food and light source items.

  • Mold spores: not really mobs, these entities spawn around mushroom forests, and can be killed to get mold saplings. Upon touching blocks, they try to plant themselves.

  • Bone mites: Tiny white creatures that live in and on bones. Will attack the player and anything else with a skeleton inside, including skeletons, which they deal huge damage to. They can be captured in some sort of container and then thrown like a grenade.

  • Wither Wisps: glowing spectres that use their light to attract prey, which they then posses, inflicting the wither effect. They heal undead creatures.

  • Phoenix: the only bird in the nether, origin unknown. Very similar to parrots, they come in many different colors. Pacifist creatures, they play dead in response to harm, giving rise to the legend of their ability to resurrect. They spawn in nether jungles and eat much like a woodpecker does, drilling into stalagnates.

  • Hogelopes: small rabbit like pig creatures, thick skin makes them immune to cacti. Their leather can be used to make armor that provides immunity to nether cacti and egg plants.

I don't expect any of these to be implemented, though you can if you want. These are more for providing inspiration. The flora so far is amazing, keep it up!

Thank you for these ideas, some of them are not difficult to implement.

I tried to keep them simple implementation wise. The flying pig is just a bat with a bigger model for instance

Progress on some kind of mob - Hydrogen Jellyfish. This mob is passive, but can damage you when you touch it, also it can explode when receive damage.

Maybe small passive mobs could take shelter from predators around the jellyfish, since any attempt to catch them would mean mutual destruction.

That sounds logical

I want to copy some old suggestions from forum.
Suggestions from ivuul [post]

So, this is probably the most overused nether themed suggestion i've ever seen but i'll suggest it anyways, the first major important thing: Why not allow netherrak coal, iron, gold, diamond, lapis and emerald spawn throughout the nether?
The Fire Beetle!
large orange beetles that would either be Neutral or Hostile, tamable through the use of either perhaps a black apple, a netherwart or mushroom type?
Biomes they spawn in:
Normal Nether (Uncommonly)
Nether Grasslands (Uncommonly)
Gravel Deserts (Rarely)
(Potential NetherEx support if possible): Torrid Wastelands (Commonly)
The Fire Beetles roam usually alone, they spend their time roaming looking for food, and will become undyingly loyal to any kind soul who feeds them. the Fire Beetle is a bit of a force to be reckoned with, their hardened shell keeps them alive for quite a while in fights, a tamed Fire Beetle can take out enemies hostile to their master. perhaps if the nether ores makes it in (Or if not, perhaps modded support for modded in nether ores.) the Fire Beetle could be attracted to lingering around ores or even spawning near large ore clusters.
tamed fire beetles also have a special ability. right clicking them will have them open their shells allowing you to place item inside as portable storage. the Fire Beetle will also slowly smelt any ores that is stored within it. when an ore is inside the Fire Beetle, smoke particles will come from it.
They can also sit still and not move if you sneak + right click on them with an empty hand. as for what wild Fire Beetles could drop? i suppose they could potentially drop some Fire Beetle meat for some new food, perhaps when cooked their meat could give some fire resistance? or maybe it can just be a good food. they could also potentially drop some smelted ore such as iron and gold ingots, and/or perhaps their shells? No idea what it could be used for, i'm just kinda spit balling at this point.
Stats:
HP: 25 hearts
Damage: (Easy) 1 heart (Normal) 2 hearts and sets the player on fire (Hard) 3 hearts, sets the player on fire. these states are unarmored, tweak if you wish, i'm not good at balancing.
Nether counterparts to some of the overworld animals
The Teslamb!
The Teslamb are demonic 3 eyed sheep that can come in many colors, and can be sheared for their respective wool colors, they have two states that they can be in:
The Calm State
1 Their third eye is closed in this state
2 They are neutral in this state, attacking one will cause it to instantly go into it's Static State (more on this in a moment.), all other nearby calm teslambs will flee in fear.
3 Calm Teslambs can be bred via nether wart or perhaps nether grass (i haven't been able to play the mod too much yet, can you obtain nether grass in survival normally?) or perhaps any other plant idea?
4 Calm Teslambs can be peacefully and safely sheared for their wool.
The Static State
Teslambs might spawn in this state, but they will calm down after the length of one in game day, they can instantly be tossed into this state if they are harmed in any way.
1 Static Teslambs third eye opens up, lightning particles circle their wool.
2 Static Teslambs will fire off bolts of lightning to any nearby mobs that isn't the player, another Teslamb, or a players pet.
3 Static Teslambs will zap players who shear them in this state, dealing damage and not shearing the wool.
4 Static Teslambs will ruthlessly try to zap any players who try to fight them, they have a short charge up before they toss their bolts, allowing a player to dodge or block with their shield if they have one.
On Death Teslambs drop their wool (not nearly as much as you'd get via shearing.) and Mutton.
Teslambs can be found in the following biomes:
Normal Nether (Uncommonly)
Nether Jungle (Commonly)
Nether Grasslands (Commonly)
(Potential NetherEx support.) Fungi Forest (Commonly)
Stats:
HP: 4 hearts like normal sheep.
Damage: (Easy) 1 heart, (Normal) 3 hearts, (Hard) 3 and a half hearts.
Duplicow
A shadowy shimmering cow creature that seems to leave behind clones of itself that slowly copy it's movements before disappearing.
be careful, if you accidentally attack a duplicow clone, it will disappear blinding the player and allow the normal duplicow to flee
The Duplicow is entirely passive, attacking the real duplicow will cause it's clones to despawn.
when standing around, it might spawn clones around to throw players who are hunting them off.
They can be bred but i'm not sure what should be used for it, they can drop Wraith leather and multiplying beef, and can be milked giving a source of milk in the nether in the form of shimmermilk, a milk that seems to shimmer slightly..
Likewise, perhaps there can be Wraith Leather Armor, a type of shimmering armor that is the same DEF and Durability of normal leather armor (or maybe slightly better since it's a nether armor set?) Wraith Leather can also be used in place of leather for any recipe.
Biomes: Normal Nether: semi commonly
Nether Jungle (Commonly)
Nether Grasslands (Semi commonly)
Mushroom Forest (Semi Commonly)
(Potential Nether Ex Support) Fungi Forest (Semi Commonly)
Stats:
HP: 5 hearts.
Fyre Fowl
Large Chicken like birds with feathers made of flames, they live in groups and prey on Pigzombies that trespass in their nesting grounds. they lay eggs in the form of a block on the ground, then they will stay by the eggs protecting them from anything, including players.
Fyre Fowls can be led and bred via rotten flesh once bred they will manually lay an egg, eggs that were laid by Fyre Fowl breeding can be safely harvested by the player without worry that the Fyre Fowl parents will attempt to fight them. on death they drop Phoenix Feathers which can be used in place of Feathers in recipes, they also drop raw Fyre Fowl which is the nether version of raw chicken.
They are only found in the normal nether biome semi commonly and
(If Netherex support is possible.) the Torrid Wastelands (Commonly)
Stats:
6 Hearts
Damage: (Easy) 2 hearts, (Normal) 3 hearts, sets the player on fire., (Hard) 3 and a half hearts, sets the player on fire.
the Lavafin
A special of slightly large (about an entire block big.) fish that can be found passively swimming in the lava, they like to sometimes leap out from the lava into the air and fall back into the lava. if you can (somehow) kill one they will drop themselves as an item which can be eaten (no need to cook it!) the nether version of a fish!
If the Lavafin leaps out of the lava and somehow lands on land, it'll flop until it finds lava again kinda like a guardian when it gets stranded.
Stats:
HP: 1 heart
Lava Fishing!
Wish you could go on a fishing trip, but you're too busy stuck in hell with crying sky demons and necrotic pigs? Worry not, just find yourself an Underworld Fishing Pole in a Nether Fortress chest! (or possibly another structure loot.) and get fishin'!
The Underworld Fishing Pole allows you to fish in large enough lava sources, potential outcomes you may get from fishing include:
Lavafin
Obsidian Block
A Zombie Pigman (Will actually just spawn a neutral zombie pigman in the lava that you were fishing at.
Ghast Tear
Phoenix Feather
Rotten Flesh
Scorch snapper (Another fish type, no idea what it could be used for outside of food.
Skeletal Fish (Can be turned into Bonemeal
Skeleton Skull
Wither Skull (Rarest potential item.)
Diamond (Another rare potential item)
Feel free to come up with any additional ideas for things to be able to fish up!

Suggestion from darkraptor6 [post]

The Gloom-shroom thrower, or Gribshroom (or another name)
Description: Into the mushroom forest, a strange and big figure moves. It walks slowly and heavily, sometimes it moans :a deep, inarticulate sound made of pain.
He is searching for food, and nothing will stop him. His back is covered of terrible excrescences... theses are in fact parasites toxic mushrooms.
Appearance and habitat:
-> In the mushroom forest biome
-Big quadrupedal humanoïd beast with dark skin and glowing eyes. -Size of idk, maybe 2 players in length? He could break blocks when walking but only mushroom blocks. -On his back there will be a big amount of little mushroom that would be yellow-green, with maybe other normal mushroom.
Comportment: It's an aggresive monster. It is very territorial. Attacks player, passives creatures. (zombie pigmen ?)
Attacks: When he will see you, he will shoot with theses mushrooms on you; it would produce a big cloud of spores (particles) that will quickly despawn. This cloud would infliges you with slowness 2, blindness and some poison. Theses debuffs serve him to let him come enough near to you and then he will crush you with his arms.
Stats & rewards: - This monster is quite tanky : ~60 HP but a good defense against ranged weapons and knockback. - This monster is very slow, so you can avoid him with some luck.
-After been killed, he would dropps a lot of mushrooms and MAYBE some hide of this creature, to make an armor with it ( good as iron, with a strong resistance to any poison!)

My opinion:

darkraptor6, thank you for your suggestion, but I think that the mob that can break blocks will completely destroy biome, where he will spawn. I think, that some smaller creatures can have same attacks, like beetles, for example.

Suggestions from yfa75611 [post]

cinncinnasite golems
essentially a friendly blaze if built, but if spawned regularly they're hostile
of course, they'd need to look different from blazes
built with a pillar of 2 forged cinncinnasite blocks with a wither skull on top
nether temples for the nether jungle and nether pyramids for the gravel desert
wartlings
spawn in the wart forest
semi-passive(passive until attacked) crab-like creatures with nether wart growing out of their backs
drop carapace occasionally, which can be crafted into carapace armor
carapace armor has slightly better stats than leather, and gives fire resistance and regular resistance when the full set is worn
nether mushroom cows
spawn in the grassland biome and the mushroom forest, can be milked for nether wart soup, passive until attacked
mycolids
spawn in the wart forest and the mushroom forest
three varieties(nether wart, brown and red), all aggressive
silverfish-type enemies that inflict a variety of effects, depending on the type
red ones inflict weakness, brown ones inflict slowness, and nether wart ones inflict nausea
drop their respective fungi
lastly, spore zombies
zombie pigmen infected by fungi
spawn in the mushroom forest biome
always aggressive, will sometimes attack non-infected pigmen, spreading the contagion
drop mushrooms on top of the usual pigmen drops
no gold sword
several textures, one for each fungus added by this mod, and all the vanilla fungi

Suggestions from crazyspacekid [post]

Eyeball Spider: aggressive until tamed, acts like a wolf
Orange Mushroom Mooshroom: Another supply of food in the nether.
Magma squid: Or any passive lava mob. Not really any concept here, i just find lava lakes to be so boring. No other Nether mod has any passive lava mobs either so it might make this mod more unique.
Black Apple Horse: (Blapple Horse?) Fire horses and Nightmares from Mocreatures and Wings, Horns and Hooves are all so cliche and over done. Tamed using black apples it can also wade through lava? (dark purple all over with the stem colour as the mane!

Suggestion from Michael_Corvus [post]

new mob suggestion to spawn in cities: Mimic
the mimic would spawn somewhat uncommonly in the ancient cities and would look like a spawnpoint statue upon first approach, however as you came near it would spring to life, it's eyes would glow a bright red and it would make coarse sliding sounds like stone and metal grinding together as it moved towards you methodically. it would have a lot of health and be difficult to kill, however upon killing the creature it may drop some of the material it is made of as well as a bright golden-colored blade of cincinnasite,
