I'm packaging alot for GNU Guix. See current status:

http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/guix-devel/2016-07/msg00060.html

I have two packaging related questions for the devs:

  1. Is there anything preventing alot-0.3.7 from being imported into PyPi? We prefer fetching release tarballs from PyPi rather than GitHub.
  2. What is an appropriate short description? Here are some examples of short descriptions currently in use:
    • Debian[0]: Text mode MUA using notmuch mail
    • Fedora[1]: An experimental terminal MUA based on notmuch mail
    • Arch[2]: terminal-based MUA for the notmuch mail system

Thanks for this and welcome to alot :)

This reall yought to be in the FAQ..
I do not believe in (the idea behind) pypi and do not want the extra
effort of maintaining a package there.
Someone, at some point uploaded a version of alot there, even added some
non-mainline patches and then abandoned it. I do not want to deal with
bugreports and pypi issues for such forks.

Any of those will do, I think I prefer the first one.

That's fair enough. There's nothing in Guix which mandates PyPi over GitHub,
so I'll keep it as-is (fetching 0.3.7 from GitHub).

Thanks for your input!
