The Listener only supports udp input.
There is no kind of auth / verification. Anything received is processed.

freq
is for frequency of events, measures events / sec. - useful for measuring failure rates, or hits / sec.
echo my_event_keyword > /dev/udp/127.0.0.1/9876

Gauge
is any fluctuating value. - useful for graphing fluctuating values, eg sysload.
echo my_gauge_keyword {value} > /dev/udp/127.0.0.1/9876

counter
is any incrementing value, measures rate of change / sec. - useful for graphing network usage.
echo my_counter_keyword {value} COUNTER > /dev/udp/127.0.0.1/9876

sum
is sum of received values / sec. - useful for graphing web server traffic.

eventmarker
