pqiv freezes during slideshows on my mac

I observe two manifestations of pqiv freezing when running it on my Mac. Typically I might have it running covering part of one monitor, while reading something in another window (that has focus).

1. Failure mode 1. The slideshow mode stops updating for many seconds after it should have advanced. If I move the mouse cursor over the window (but I need not give it focus), it sometimes updates as soon as the mouse cursor overlaps the pqiv window. After this, the slide show continues as expected.
2. Failure mode 2. The slideshow mode hangs altogether—but the program is not frozen. In this mode, the slideshow stops advancing, but waving the mouse cursor over the window fails to cause it to advance. If I then give the window focus, I can press or and the window title updates to the next (or prev) filename, but the display doesn't update. If I press 'M', the title indicates it has entered montage mode, but it does not. The display stays frozen on the same image file until I press 'Q', which causes pqiv to quit as expected.

If you have suggestions for how I can gather more info, I'd be happy to try get more information about it. It seems to happen with JPG and PNG files (or a mixture thereof).

I'm afraid there isn't much I can do to help :/ Mac support within gtk is flaky, and pqiv doesn't have any native code of it's own that could be responsible. I am confident it's possible to find a workaround with some experimentation, but I don't own a Mac, so turnaround times would be too large to make progress at an acceptable pace.

One thing that might work as a workaround is to disable window positioning and automated resizing. The former is a startup option, the latter both that and a keyboard shortcut, and both are in the man-page. Hope that helps.
