When I press ESC key It should close any menus and go back to ship view
But instead of that it opens options menu. It is a little inconvenient in my opinion

Hmm, you may be right. Maybe if ESC always gets you back to the worldview unless you're already there, in which case it takes you to the settings. I'll give it a try in the next few days and see how it feels.

if so, I'm posting a reminder to myself/us to update http://pioneerwiki.com/wiki/Settings_Menu, and http://pioneerwiki.com/wiki/Keyboard_and_mouse_controls

I think, if you have a chat window open, it should only close that and only then Esc should lead to the worldview, and maybe an additional key combo that brings you directly to the options, no matter where you are, Shift+Esc maybe?

We were talking about the right behaviour while paused in #2732. Maybe this is part of the same thing. Pause gets you a greyed-out pause screen, and you can get to the options from there. Esc goes back to the previous thing (dropping the top UI layer) all the way up to the worldview, and then it gets you the equivalent of Pause.

I'll experiment.

@impaktor @robn @nozmajner @monolifed @lwho I've just published a document with a proposal for updating the effects of pressing the ESC key on a per-view basis. You can find the details in the Dev Forum: http://pioneerspacesim.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=385#p4531

Closing as duplicate of #4851 as that issue better tracks the current situation.
