One of explanations that I like is :

PolarDB-X: X means galaXy

Other databases such as TiDB, OceanBase, have the same brand name both in open source and inner source/commercial versions. I think this may be a good action to enhance the public awareness and recognition of the database.

I doubt people may be confused between Galaxy series and PolarDB? Especially when PolarDB brand has been well-known among many developers.

Hi, hiddenbomb, Thanks for your question.
GalaxySQL/GalaxyEngine is more like a sub-brand of PolarDB-X, because PolarDB-X has two main independent components ( SQL Layer& Storage Layer) , either of these two components can represent PolarDB-X, so we named them separately. Another reason is that we also want to minimize the influence of the Alibaba Cloud database brand. A brand new code name represents a new beginning.
