Question about schema v1alpha2 #625

I can't find much info about this version of schema. What is the use of nested Groups ? It seems like they get flattened , I initially thought they were similar to arrow records.

The way I see it it is pretty much converted to v1alpha1 before being used, unless I missed something ?
